Having gvSIG in the Ubuntu Repository would be very helpful, so if JAI is not really needed anymore for core functionality removing it would be desirable.
Hi all.
I don't know if many of you have received this e-mail.
The people from Ubuntu tell us that they can't put gvSIG in Ubuntu
because we depend on JAI. In fact, this dependency is very annoying and
is very easy to avoid. (new releases of Geotools don't use it anymore,
and we only need one easy class....).
So, my proposal is to remove this dependency for 1.9.1 and contac again
with Ubuntu in order to get gvSIG included in next Ubuntu distribution.
Best regards.

gvSIG relies on the java advanced imaging library which is non-free software.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/314799
Unless that library changes its license or gvSIG can be built without it
it is impossible to create a package which can be added to the
repositories...
