class=gmail_quote>Hi Sabine,

this is a bug in the DBMS interface GUI
(will file a bug ticket
with the developers about this shortly). ODBC
connections do not
require a host name or port. All of that information
is managed
by the system's ODBC driver. You should just be able to
enter
any bogus values into the "servername" and "port" fields.

If
it still does not work, then the problem lies somewhere else.
Perhaps a
character encoding or data type that the gvSIG ODBC
driver does not
support.

Cheers,

Ben
odbc-connection to MS Access-Database

Dear
list,

I was trying to get some connection to my MS Access
Database in gvSIG 1.9 via odbc on my local notebook (Windows Vista). I have
done this some time ago on my old Windows XP-Notebook, using gv SIG 1.1.2
and it was working.

My first problem is now, that in gvSIG 1.9 I have
to fill in a servername and port (this was not necessary in gvSIG 1.1.2).
Johannes told me, that someone told him last week, the servername in such
cases is localhost (or something equal, he didn’t remember it at all) and
the port would be 80 or 8080. I’ve tried several combinations but I can’t
get this tool running (see enclosed error message)! I’ve tried it with gvSIG
1.1.2 as well, but it doesn’t work. Is it possible, that this is another
Vista-bug? Maybe someone has some idea to solve this problem?

By the
way, I’ve tried some connection to MS Excel-tables via odbc too. It is
working perfectly, so in the worst case I have to export my tables and
queries to Excel, but more comfortable would be the way via
odbc/Access.

Thank you, best
regards,

Sabine

Illegal group
