Hi list,

at the moment I am using gvSIG 1.9 to produce a bunch of official maps.
I have to use/translate authoritative settings regarding size and shape for symbolizing content.

For example a specific type of area has to be symbolized by using point marker symbols which are 2 pt in size and are separated with 5.6 pt.
Now, gvSIG does not offer points as a unit so I googled a while and found that points (pts) used in Desktop Publishing (DTP) are known as PostScript Points or Pica Points
(see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point_%28typography%29#Current_DTP_point_system).
These can be translated into millimeters (which gvSIG offers), so 1 pt = 0.3528 mm.
So in my example points should be 0.7056mm (0,71mm) in size and separated by 1.97568mm (2mm).

Question #1:
Am I on the right track here regarding size of marker symbols?

Question #2 deals with the shape of symbols:
Within the settings dialogue for marker symbols one can choose different shapes (rectangle, point/circle, cross, triangle and so on).
Every time I select the point shape for markers with the above settings for size and separation (0.71, 2) the resulting pdf will show rectangular markers.
What could be wrong?

Thanks for all comments!

best,

Johannes
