thanks for the sample shapefile.

It is probably a bug in the Oracle Spatial driver but I cannot look into it right now.

I can see that in your shapefile there are lots of holes and islands inside the holes (or maybe that big geometry is a collection of polygons, I have not checked that)

As for now, use gvSIG to do the buffer, or create the buffer without merging any polygons (I presume there is an option in ArcView to do that?) so the resulting polygons will not have holes and islands inside the holes (which might be causing a conversion error somewhere)

Regards,

Dear list,

I noticed a very strange behaviour when exporting geometries to an
oracle database.
The source dataset contains some features which were generated _in
ArcView_ using the buffer command. This geometry contains some "holes".

After exporting the dataset to the oracle database, the holes
disappeared. I remembered a former post from me. The order of the
vertices is different before and after exporting. This seems to cause
the dissapearing holes. Any ideas what went wrong? I could also notice
that this effect did not happen with a file that was originally created
in gvSIG. Is it a bug in gvSIG? Any ideas are appreciated very much.

Best,
Wolfgang

--
Wolfgang Qual

Landeshauptstadt München
Referat für Gesundheit und Umwelt
Umweltschutz, Umweltvorsorge
RGU-UW 11
Team Klimaschutz, Energie

Bayerstraße 28a
80335 München

Telefon: +49 - 89 - 233 - 4 77 17
Telefax: +49 - 89 - 233 - 4 77 05
E-Mail: wolfgang.qual@muenchen.de
Internet: http://www.muenchen.de/rgu

Bitte beachten Sie die Hinweise zur elektronischen
Kommunikation mit der Landeshauptstadt München:
http://www.muenchen.de/ekomm
