<P class=MsoNormal>Can anyone help? I am a new user, learning on the job, and I’m having a few problems.</P>

<P class=MsoNormal>I have new layers from shapefiles exported from a GPS; I can open the data, manipulate it (move, copy etc) but cannot do anything more fundamental to it.</P>

<P class=MsoNormal>For instance, I want to split polylines but the Split Geometries tool remains permanently greyed out. Also, if I try to add information to the new fields I have added to the attributes table, when I [return] after inputting, it reverts to ‘0’. </P>

<P class=MsoNormal>I have probably missed something incredibly basic, so please, any suggestions (apart from ‘have you made the layer editable’!) are very welcome!</P>
