[Gvsig_english] Res: Gvsig_internacional Digest, Vol 18, Issue 5

Hi all,

This is the first time I'm participating in the forum and regarding this issue, street types, I'd like to advise to contact a navigation systems company, like Navteq or TeleAtlas, to see if they can provide a file with this data. Surely they have one.
There is a large number of Street types in Portugal, and I imagine in the rest of Europe too, beside the more usual ones, for which I don't have an english translation. That's why I advise to contact any of those companies or other.

I'm just a GIS user and I fully support programmers work in GIS, specially in OS software like gvSIG. Congratulations and keep the excellent work done so far!

Regards,
Pedro Santos

Sorry for the series of emails here, but information about the british
systems comes in chunks, as i am not a local, only a resident!

so, regarding main roads, the standard seems to be as follows:
Road code letter - always in capitals (M for motorways, A for trunkroads, B
for minor roads. other road types are unclassified), followed by 1 to 4
numbers.

In the case of M roads, the Junction specification follows, with the letter
J followed by 1 to 2 numbers, and occasionally-in the case of special
junctions, followed by a letter.

e.g.

M1, J5A

Information about a place away from a junction would be given with distance
in miles!

Hi Miguel,

In France the addressing system is as follow:

- number
- street type
- street name
- postal code
- town

here is an exemple:

5, boulevard de la liberté - 35000 Rennes

==> In some cases were there could be more than one building at the
salme number, an alphabet letter will be used to differentiate the
buildings then youy could have something like:

31 A rue des landelles- 35 510 Cesson Sévigné

==> Sometimes, there are what we call in french "des lieudits" (in thing
the correct translation in english could be locality). These are
localities where more than one building is adressed at. There is no
numbre in this case.
Then you will something like:
Le chene Noel, 35 520 Melesse

Last but not least, my professional adress as follow :-)

best regards

The Portuguese system its very similar as it is in Spain except for the zip code where we use 7 digit numbers, as follow: 4100-446

As a sample, in Portugal our addressing system is the following one:

1) - Street type (e.g. Rua -street-, Avenida -avenue-, ...).
   - Street name (e.g. Sarah Afonso).
   - Number (e.g. 41, ...).
   - Postal Code (7 digits, e.g. 4200-446)
   - Town / village.
   - Example: Rua Sarah Afonso, 41 4200-446 Porto.

2) - Road name (e.g. estrada -road- Nacional 1, Autoestrada -highway-, ...) / Road code.
   - Milestone (e.g. km. 3,5).
   - Examples:
         * Estrada Nacional 1, Km 3,5.
         * A3, Km. 7.

More info in Portuguese, readable by any Spanish or at least it should :)
