Hello, Wolfgang
No. Currently it's not possible to decide the name of the geometry column when you export a layer to Oracle Spatial. As you know, the user is asked in two different dialogs for the table name and whether the coordinate system of the view should be stored.
I think it would be a good idea to merge those dialogs and create a big dialog where the user could decide:
- table name
- whether to save the coordinate system of the view or not
- name of the geometry column
- table's bounding box (choose between: copy the layer's full extent, or compute the full extent of the features. Sometimes layers have a wrong full extent)
- tolerance (this is also in the table's metadata, usually set to a very small number, and has a special treatment when the coordinate system is in degrees)
- perhaps, the user could also make some decision about the dimensions of the geometries. For example, if you have a 3D shapefile but you only want 2D geometries in Oracle, or maybe you have a 2D shapefile and you want to add a Z value for each vertex somehow... well, maybe this is going too far ;)
I hope my response was not too long !!

Hi list,
just a very short question: is it possible to set the name of the geometry column when exporting a (shapefile)layer to an Oracle Database? AFAIK, gvSIG sets the name of that column to "geometry". However, other applications call it "the_geom" or "geom". Short answer would be great!
Best regards,
Wolfgang
