[Gvsig_english] recommended raster exchange format

Hello,
following the previous post about *.asc files I'd like to ask for 
recommendations on the recommended raster format between different 
programmes and gvSIG (especially GRASS).

I am running GRASS on linux and export with r.out.gdal. Since a 
generally recommended format is GeoTiff I used that format. When I open 
the very same file in gvSIG (on windows) for map preparation The raster 
is all black. I have the raster pilot installed.

What can cause such an error?
