Hi Sven,

About print quality, Presentation or Draft is an option you have for
each independent element in your map, in order to save memory resources
(Presentation means more quality, and uses more memory than Draft).

Also you have the option 'Resolution: High/Normal/Low' in the 'Prepare
page' window (inside Map menu, too). That means: High=700dpi,
Normal=300dpi, Low=72 dpi.

About convert a vector layer to raster, it's possible with two tools:
* View menu/Export image, where you can save in .png, .jpeg or .bmp format
* and the tool 'Save as raster' (red square icon); with it you save a
georeferenced image in .jpeg, .jpeg2 or .tiff format.
The inverse case (convert a raster to vector) I think it's possible with
Sextante (option 'vectorize').

I hope this helps you. Regards!

Sergio.
