Hello, Robert,

gvSIG's WMS client has no support for SLD-enabled WMS servers. This 
means that it is not possible editing and submitting locally edited 
styles for your layers. You can achieve the what I guess you want by 
defining the styles in your server and select the named-style at the 
style tag that would appear for each style you have predefined.

In any case this would be a customization at the server side and not at 
the client side by the user.

in map server, it is handy the use of the onlineResource attribute in 
which you can configure the server to act as a client of other services 
(maybe other servers, or maybe other mapfile in the same server) to hide 
the complexity of your system to the client (gvSIG)
