Thank you Agustin for the links and information.
We want gvSIG Mobile to run on the more the better mobile devices so we have
choosen to develop it using Java (J2ME CDC PP). There is a Virtual Machine
for Windows Mobile ARM, Linux ARM and even Symbian, but Apple has manifested
no interest on developing a Java virtual machine for the iPhone.
In our part we will try to make gvSIG Mobile the most modular as possible to
allow developers to change a little part of the code to port the application
to every device but it will be useless without virtual machine. Even Android
could be a system where gvSIG Mobile will be ported because it provides a non
standard version of Java, but Java compatible.
We expect Apple to change his mind, if not, there is a free and open source
virtual machine developed by Sun (phoneMe advanced) so the comunity could
port it to the iPhone. Until this moment gvSIG Mobile won't run on the
iPhone, sorry.
If you read news about Java on the iPhone please send me an email.
Thanks
Javi

Asunto: [Gvsig_english] gvSIG mobile wish
Hi all,
Reading news about apple's iPhone plans [1] I got a question. Will
gvSIG mobile run in the iPhone? In the affirmative case,
congratulations; in the negative: why not? I'm still excited about
having a gvSIG mobile in my hands at the Girona meeting, it was really
great but my plans don't include to run Windows mobile in any PDA.
Even if we (spaniards) are still waiting for the iPhone, it seems that
the iPhone is growing faster than any other gadget everywhere.
This is one of my technological dreams having an iPhone where gvSIG
could run when I am doing my fieldwork. Let's do it real with gvSIG [2].
Sweet dreams.
Agustin
