Hi all,
As member of gvSIG team and OSGeo Foundation I want to clarify some terms about how wikis at OSGeo servers work and how can we use them.
First, there is a main OSGeo wiki[1] that is used to manage the day by day tasks of the Foundation and Local Chapters. On that wiki committees develop their documents (that may later will be "upgraded" to the official site as they are approved), the community manage events, new ideas are drafted, education materials are catalogued, and so on.
So, this wiki is not used by projects to develop their documentation, but of course, as a non-centralized tool, project-specific documents can appear. It's more focused to "cross-project" ideas like Meta-CRS project[1.5].
Besides the official webpage[2], the wiki[1] and the OSGeo trac[3], OSGeo hosts some infrastructure from several projects. This is not a must for the projects but for different reasons some projects prefer to have their collaborative tools on OSGeo servers.
gvSIG project is not hosting its infrastructure on the OSGeo servers, as it's managed on Polytechnic University of Valencia ones (specifically at Computer Science Technology Institute[4]).
On the other hand, GRASS wiki[5] was migrated to OSGeo some time ago, but it's not the same than the main OSGeo wiki, furthermore, my user/pass on the OSGeo wiki doesn't works on the GRASS wiki, they are different wikis.
I agree (and this is MY personal opinion) gvSIG community needs a non-centralized tool like a wiki to develop all great ideas that you are discussing here. Maybe OSGeo could be a good place to create a community wiki, some OSGeo leaders are here and can discuss that.
Putting gvSIG drafts at OSGeo wiki can work, but I think is better, on a long term point of view, to have a separated wiki (at OSGeo or anywhere).
Best regards, and again, thank you for the nice effort you're doing to develop and improve gvSIG
