[Gvsig_english] Accessing SDE binary geometry from gvSIG

Hello, Harvey:
When the ArcSDE extension installer asks if you want to check the prerequisites, say 'no', then it will ask you to locate a 'java.exe' file. Choose any java.exe you have installed in your computer, from a JVM higher or equal to 1.4.2. In my case:
C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_07\jre\bin\java.exe
It will then say that 1.4.2 is recommended, but it's ok, a higher one will do. Then go through the installation wizard and finally you only have to copy the two JAR files mentioned in the installation instructions to:
[GVSIG_FOLDER]\bin\gvSIG\extensiones\org.gvsig.sde\lib\
And that's it. The next time you start gvSIG, in the GeoBD connections dialog you will see the 'gvSIG SDE driver' available in the drop-down combo box.
I do not have an ArcSDE-managed database myself, so I cannot help you further in this regard, sorry.
Cheers,
Juan Lucas Domínguez Rubio

Thanks Juan, looks pretty straight forward. However, while installing
the gvSIG plugin, it checked for Java JRE 1.4.2 and asked to install it.
I received the error attached on this e-mail.
I've tried a bunch of different ways of resolving the problem including
installing 1.4.2 from alternative sources. I'm wondering if anyone else
has encountered this problem and what I might do to overcome it.
Thanks -Harvey Arnone

Hello, Harvey:
- Regarding ArcSDE, there is a gvSIG plugin (or extension) to get
read-only access. You can read the installation instructions here:
http://www.gvsig.gva.es/index.php?id=1874&K=1&L=2
And download it from here (bottom of the page):
http://www.gvsig.gva.es/index.php?id=1873&L=0explotan&L=2
And read the user manual here:
ftp://downloads.gvsig.org/gva/descargas/ficheros/Extensiones/gvSIG-1_1_1-ArcSDE_Client-man-1_0-es.pdf
it's in Spanish, but with the screen-shots in pages 5 to 8 is enough, I
think.
- Regarding the direct access to Oracle Spatial or Locator databases
(Oracle SDO), you need to download the Oracle JDBC driver from the
Oracle website:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/htdocs/jdbc_10201.html
Copy the 'ojdbc14.jar' file to this folder:
[GVSIG_FOLDER]\bin\gvSIG\extensiones\com.iver.cit.gvsig\lib\
and you will be able to access your tables with SDO objects in your
Oracle database with read-write access, so you can add and edit them as
vector layers in your gvSIG project.
You can also check the Oracle Spatial section in the gvSIG English
manual:
ftp://downloads.gvsig.org/gva/descargas/manuales/gvSIG-1_1-man-v1-en.pdf

I understand that I should be able to connect to ArcSDE data stored in
Oracle from the gvSIG desktop application. I cannot determine how to do
this and hoped someone could direct me.
Alternatively, if this is not possible, how would I connect to Oracle
SDO datasets?
Thanks for your help. I'm new to gvSIG. -Harvey Arnone (Seattle
