[Gvsig_english] gvSIG participates in the 12th Geographers' Meeting
of Latin America

Under the motto 'Walking in a Latin America in Transformation? will be
celebrated the 12th Geographers' Meeting of Latin America (EGAL 2009)
from April 2 to April 7 in Montevideo, Uruguay. The gvSIG Project
will have an out-standing participation in the meeting.
Among the objectives of the event are the following:
To stimulate the production of geographical research and to generate
scientific debate among the Latin-American Geography with the
participation of everyone involved;
To give support to research, teaching and Latin American extension
through agreements among the different centers of education and
institutions grouping the geographers;
To develop Geography with the vision that those inhabiting this region
of the world will attend to the principal spatial problems
(territorial, environmental, social and economic) that suffers the
region;
To stimulate an open relationship, avoiding the development of
exclusive power groups.
Set for Saturday the 4th of April and under the EGAL 2009?s auspices,
gvSIG will participate in the meeting with the presentation ?gvSIG:
GIS in open source software?.
Simultaneously, from March 30 to April 2 there will be a gvSIG course
given at the Faculty of Science of the Universidad de la República
Oriental del Uruguay, for the project 'Development of tools for
environmental and territorial monitoring'. This is part of the
program 'Unidos in Acción' (United in Action) carried out jointly by
the Uruguayan government and the United Nations.
This project is considered of special relevancy in Uruguay, since
several institutions are agreeing on methodologies and tools of work
for the management of the geographical information in the frame of the
Infrastructure of Spatial Information of Uruguay. The objective of the
course is to learn gvSIG and its applications in depth, considering
its generalized use in state organisms and in the private sector.
