Hi,

Some tests have been done in the past with H2, but SQLite3 would be
great. We have to coordinate GSoC proposals ASAP.

WOW!!! 
I am sure SpatiaLite support would be really a Must for gvSIG 2. 
Not to mention that other Open Source GIS already support it ;-)
