[Gvsig_english] gvSIG Mobile

Hello, Dean & others:

I have just realized that in recent versions of phoneME, there is a little app included to configure the bevahior of system bars, so if you are using gvSIG Mobile with phoneME and still have issues with the top bar, I recommend these steps:

- Uninstall gvSIG Mobile and phoneME and remove the folders \gvSIGMobile and \phoneme from the PDA file system root and from your SD card if you have one

- Install the most recent version of phoneME from its website:

http://www.cs.kuleuven.be/~davy/phoneme/index.php?q=node/10

Use the phoneME version that matches your Windows Mobile version. If you are on Windows Mobile 6.1, get the Windows Mobile 6 version. The zip you need is the one called :

"phoneME Advanced - Personal Profile bXXX"

- Unzip it in your PC and copy the \phoneme folder to the root of your PDA.

- Important: From your PDA's file explorer, run this app:

\ phoneme \ personal \ bin \ config

You'll see a simple dialog with some checkboxes. You can try different settings, but I think the important thing is to ACTIVATE the option "'Show menu bar'

- Install gvSIG Mobile using "...forPhoneME.CAB":

http://downloads.gvsig.org/pub/gvSIG-mobile/devel/piloto-0_3/piloto-0_3_0/275/gvSIGMobile-0.3.0-build_275-WMX-forPhoneME.cab

- Restart your PDA (soft reset) and try gvSIG Mobile again

You can play with the config checkboxes and choose your favorite settings. gvSIG Mobile should not be running while you edit those settings.

Sorry Juan, neither of those did the trick. Let me know when you get the version the other people are running.

Cheers

Hello, Dean.

The top bar is not reachable for some combinations: a certain version of Windows Mobile and a certain version of Phoneme. There are several people with this issue who have solved it. I have asked one of them to send me his \phoneme folder. I'll send it to you if these two attempts do not work:

Please try this:

- Close gvSIG Mobile if it was running.

- Remove the folder \phoneme from the root of your PDA (or from the SDCARD if it was there)

- Download this ZIP file, unzip it in your PC and copy the folder \phoneme you'll find in it to the PDA (in the same place where you removed the old \phoneme):

http://www.prodevelop.es/files/fm/public/downloads/Personal_Profile-phoneme_advanced_mr2_b151-win32_arm_wm6-bin-rev20286.zip

- Restart your PDA (soft reset) and try to start gvSIG Mobile again. Can you see the top bar now?

If you can't, try to replace again the folder \phoneme with this:

http://www.prodevelop.es/files/fm/public/downloads/phoneme_windows_mobile_6.zip

It's important to restart the PDA when you replace or move a large folder like \phoneme, before trying to run the application.

Sorry about all this mess, we cannot test every single version of Windows Mobile and Phoneme.

Regards,

Hi Juan,

It seems to have worked okay, aside from getting two log4j error messages on load up, namely that it could not find the appenders for the logger and it says I need to initialise the log4j system properly. When gvSIG opens, it shows everything except for the very top of the screen and very bottom and it appears as if the screen has shifted upwards. So I'm not able to see the toolbar at the top, but I do see the side bar from the second button down. I'm sure there's an easy solution to this.

Any help would really be appreciated.

Cheers

Hello, If you have fatal errors (cvm.exe error message, device blocked, etc), try this:

- Uninstall gvSIG and remove the folders \gvSIGMobile and \phoneme

- Restart the PDA (soft reset)

- Download the ZIP described as "phoneME Advanced - Personal Profile bXXX" for your version of Windows Mobile (if it is 6.1, download the one for version 6) from:

http://www.cs.kuleuven.be/~davy/phoneme/index.php?q=node/10

- Unzip that file in your PC and copy the \phoneme folder to the root of the PDA

- Install this CAB:

http://downloads.gvsig.org/pub/gvSIG-mobile/devel/piloto-0_3/piloto-0_3_0/275/gvSIGMobile-0.3.0-build_275-WMX-forPhoneME.cab

- Restart the PDA (soft reset)

- Try gvSIG Mobile now.

If you still have those fatal errors, try the J9 version, tough the J9 virtual machine needs to be bought if it's going to be used professionally.

Instructions for the J9 version:

Install the virtual machine J9. See link here:

http://runas.cap.gva.es/pipermail/gvsig_usuarios/2008-May/005083.html

Then install the file "gvSIGMobile...forJ9.cab"

Then you have to remove the file IF THE WINDOWS MOBILE VERSION IS 6.1:

\J9\PPRO11\bin\j9jit23.dll

and it should work.

Regarding usage issues:

The right way to finish an editing session should be:

- Unselect the (multi)capture button

- Unselect the feature type button (point, line or polygon)

- Go to the layer list dialog and unselect the editing checkbox (answer yes to the question)

is this what you did beffore the polygon disappeared?

If it still disappears, send us the files under:

\gvSIGMobile\log\*.txt

G'day Juan,

Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate you taking the time.

I tried editing a polygon and after adding the last point using the GPS multipoint capture tool I tap the edit tool to stop the edit and then the polygon disappears. I'm just not sure how to stop the edit session.

I've found the port, but it doesn't seem to work consistently. It's as if it's different ports every time I use it. Mostly the same, but I can't always connect to the same port.

I'm using an HP iPAQ 212 and Holux M241 Bluetooth GPS, but we also have Getac PS236 units, which we need to load this on. I used the Get gvSIG Mobile for All platforms (12MB), WM5 or WM6 - With PhoneME. It is version 0.3.0.

I hope this helps clarify things.

Cheers mate.

Dean

Hello, Dean:

The gvSIG Mobile user manual is being translated into English at this moment. Some parts of it are offline while the translator is working.

You can see here a video showing how to edit a shapefile (point type):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYCgULKC-t4

You could also add only one point with the button placed to the left of the one I have used. Before unchecking the 'editing mode' checkbox in the layers manager dialog, you could use the (i) tool to edit the attribute values.

You should know the name of the port where the bluetooth data is available. Are you having problems there?

The new version (gvSIG Mobile 1.0) needs a few months before it's available, we still canot be more precise about this.

Pocket PCs, smartphones, etc do not always behave in the same way. Can you tell us the device's brand and model, and which version of Windows Mobile are you using?

Which CAB installer did you use exactly?

Regards,

> Hi, I'm trying to find documentation on gvSIG Mobile. I've managed to get to the page intended as the manual, but I can't find anything on editing spatial data. I'm trying to get capture data using a Bluetooth GPS, but I'm really struggling. I'm not sure what the correct procedure is. Also, I've heard that there is a new version coming out soon. When will this be available? I'm thinking of deploying it across our company, but need get all the issues sorted first. We don't have developers here, so I need a complete product. gvSIG Mobile has hung a several of times and I get a CVM.exe error notice, so I'll need to find out how to get around that too. Your help would be greatly appreciated. You have no idea how excited I am to find this software. You've spared me a lot of trouble. I just need to get it a bit more stable. Great product though. I'm really impressed. Cheers Dean
