[Gvsig_english] About community documentation space

Hi Jorge Gaspar,
I also support this option.
1. I like the concept of important documentation being managed and
retained by the core organization responsible for creation of the OS
product in the first place. If gvSIG is willing to create and host a
facility I would prefer this.
2. Having played with CMS and Wikis, I think the CMS would create more
regulated and consistent documentation. Obviously there would be a
learning curve but from what everyone is saying Plone is relatively easy
to master. A wiki provides unfetted access, but with that comes an
increase in moderation and editing.
3. If you want to have a IRC chat I would be happy to participate. Lets
organize a time. All I need is some information on when, where and how
(I don't use IRC chats, so have no idea how they are established).
4. I get the feeling that things are starting to unravel. Too many
cooks... too many ideas... everyone sitting back to let others
participate / contribute / argue... everyone reticent to commit / take
control / vote.
5. It is clear to me that there are a variety of users willing to
contribute, develop, translate documentation in a variety of languages.
We must do something to facilitate this occurring. NOW.
6 *My Vote:*- Plone CMS maintained by gvSIG. Establish user groups for a
variety of projects (translation, user manual, tutorials) for a variety
of languages (English, Italian, etc). Open the door to all new comers
and new projects, although somehow this need to be regulated to avoid
'stubs / dead' projects being established (projects with no data) or
inappropriate content being submitted. That said, users should be at
liberty to say what they feel needs to be said and not feel regulated by
anyone else. Maybe a procedure like SourceForge would be good -- a new
project will only be established once it has been established that the
request and users are bone fide, but then they have unfetted access to
develop the project site and content as they feel fit using standard
tools and templates.
7. I would like to establish a project called "*Tutorials and Guides*"
in English. Also, if a "*English User Manual*" stub was created I would
be happy to import old data, update relevant text help and thrash out
other issues.
Relevant, although slightly modified, quote of the day -- "Build it and
they will come" Kevin Costner, Field of Dreams 1989.
Cheers Simon
