Hi Jukka,
as you may understand, the behavior I described it's the one in
*plain* tiff files.
I you said, adding tiles and overviews (what I called pyramids) to a
plain tiff its a good approach, but as I'm not sure how well gvSIG
behaves with this specific kind of tiff files I suggested ECW, that I
know gvSIG it's using quite well. Another good option would be JPEG2000
format.
Of course, if precise pixel value matters, ECW and JPEG2000 must be
discarded, and your path must be explored. Maybe gvSIG works in the
right way with 'enhanced' tiles
