Hi,
Ok, I removed also the Trimble GPS Controller software and cold booted Juno and now gvSIG Mobile v. 0.3 finds NMEA signal from the Com4 port at baud rate 4800 and I can go on with testing.

Hi,
You have to be right with the font file thing. I removed the Terrasync program that was installed on the PDA and after that all gvSIG Mobile menus look right. Unfortunately I cannot test your special version because I do not have Terrasync installer. We borrowed Juno for testing because the hardware feels good and it is not extremely expensive. Unfortunately it seems to have some Trimble specialities. For example I am not sure it the integrated GPS can output NMEA by default or not.
This document says that NMEA protocol should be available at port COM4:
http://trl.trimble.com/dscgi/ds.py/Get/File-506057/Juno_Series_Customer_FAQs_0910.pdf <blocked::http://trl.trimble.com/dscgi/ds.py/Get/File-506057/Juno_Series_Customer_FAQs_0910.pdf> (page 5)
However, from reading the Juno SC manual http://trl.trimble.com/docushare/dsweb/Get/Document-437119/JunoSeries_UserGuide_v1_RevB_USGU5239_ENG.pdf <blocked::http://trl.trimble.com/docushare/dsweb/Get/Document-437119/JunoSeries_UserGuide_v1_RevB_USGU5239_ENG.pdf> (page 66) I understood that I should use the Trimble GPS Controller software for getting the NMEA output, and that it will then be in some other port than COM4. I tried this but the success has been poor so far. All I get is a message "Connection error; Unsupported Comm Operation" from gcSIG Mobile. Log file has these messages:
WARN [main] - OS NAME: WIndows CE
WARN [main] - VM: J9
WARN [main] - Add pan tool: true
WARN [AWT EventDispatchThread-0] -
AcceptCanDlg. A mysterious NP exception was caught: null
In addition, the Windows Mobile OS system have settings for GPS (program port, hardware port, and if the OS should manage GPS automatically). I have no idea about what settings I should use there. Have you managed to use gvSIG Mobile with Trimble Juno units or is it better to start looking at comparable models from other manufacturers?

Hello,
Yes I meant editing the appsettings.xml file in your PC and copying it again to the device, but I don't think that bad line in the appsettings.xml file is causing much trouble anyway.
I believe you are facing the 'TTF hack' issue: Trimble has replaced the original TTF (font) files that came with Windows Mobile, and now some <font-style>, <font-size> combinations are not available for third-party applications such as JME-CDC applications (e.g. gvSIG Mobile).
Even if we copied our favorite TTF files to the device, I don't know how to tell the JVM to use them instead of the default TTF that have been hacked by Trimble, so the only solution to this is to change the source code so that only those fonts preserved by Trimble are used in the GUI. Some time ago we created an unofficial version of gvSIG Mobile 0.3 where we had changed the font styles to skip this problem. You can download the installer from:
http://www.prodevelop.es/files/fm/public/downloads/gmobile_0.3_j9_test_stringa_3.zip <blocked::http://www.prodevelop.es/files/fm/public/downloads/gmobile_0.3_j9_test_stringa_3.zip>
You have to rename it to:
gmobile_0.3_j9_test_stringa_3.cab
I had to rename it because our web server will not deliver CAB files. Should be used on J9 only. Let me know if it works on your device.

Thanks,
I deleted the J9 folder from Juno PDA, deleted j9jit23.dll from the PC side and copied the whole folder again to the PDA. Now gvSIG Mobile is starts but many of the menus are garbled. The fontset is somehow wrong and I can see odd symbols instead of text. However, some menus look right.
I did not discover yet what would be the right way to edit the "appsettings" file. Juno unit does not have any application for editing the file. Should I edit it with PC and copy the edited file into PDA with ActiveSync? Another problem is that Active Sync made a full stop with connecting the device I cannot do anything with it at the moment. That's not a surprise with Active Sync, it has never been extremely reliable for me.

Hello Jukka:
On Windows Mobile 6.1 + IBM J9, you need to remove this file before running gvSIG Mobile:
\J9\PPRO11\bin\j9jit23.dll
You have to do it from your PC because the Windows Mobile file browser will hide it.
Also, the file:
\gvSIGMobile\persistence\appsettings.xml
should look like this, or else it might cause some problems:
http://subversion.gvsig.org/gvSIG-mobile/pilots/trunk/resources/persistence/appsettings.xml <blocked::http://subversion.gvsig.org/gvSIG-mobile/pilots/trunk/resources/persistence/appsettings.xml>
We accidentally added some bad lines in the appsettings.xml file included in the CAB installer.
If you are using some Terrasync software in your device, it might be necessary to install PFTools (231.WINDOWS_MOBILE.CAB from the Trimble website) in order to properly manage the COM ports and let third-party apps (such as gvSIG Mobile) access the GPS data.

Asunto: [Gvsig_english] Problem with gvSIG Mobile 0.3 and Trimble Juno SC
Hi,
I tried to install gvSIG 0.3 on a Trimble Juno SC unit but could not launch the program. This is what I did:
- Checked that Juno is running Windows Mobile 6.1 Classic and it has Samsung S3C2443 processor
- I installed J9 (WEME 6.1) for Windows Mobile on the unit and installation seems to be successful because I can run the golf demo from J9 examples
- I downloaded gvSIG Mobile installer version "gvSIG_Mobile_Pilot-0.3-WMX-forJ9.cab" an run it
- Everything looks good so far. I can see the program icon on Juno and it I tap the icon the splash screen appears and stays for a while. However, then it disappeares and program does not start.
- I checked the the file g_mobile_launch.log and it tells that launching was succesfull.
- I checked the log files from the \log directory and it looks like this:
WARN [main] - OS NAME: Windows CE
WARN [main] - VM J9
WARN [main] - Add pan tool: true
ERROR [main] - While reading persistence (XmlPullParserException):
unexpected type (position:TEXT http://app.prode...@17:138 <blocked::http://app.prode...@0.0.0.17:138/> in
java.io.InputStreamReader at 21b421b4 <blocked::mailto:java.io.InputStreamReader at 21b421b4>
Any idea what might go wrong?
Regards,
-Jukka Rahkonen-
