Hi Fran,

thank you for investigating the code so quickly!
Random ordering of point markers really is not what I am looking for as it
places the markers perfectly "out of order". ;-) OK, so this really works
well.
I also tried to use different fonts as templates for point markers which did
not work out either.
I suspect that setting the marker sizes for print layout somehow interferes
with the scales which are set for view and layout. This seems to change the
size once set for markers automatically depending on the scale of the view
and the layout. Saving the settings as *.sym does not help either.

Unfortunately I am not capable of programming things like this myself. I
will try to explain this problem more clearly within the bug tracking
system.
Again, thanks a lot for your help. 

For now I will have to go back to E*** to produce my maps with point
markers.
