The patch is here:

it contains the eclipse generated patch for WMSRenderer and a WMS layer with
and extra parameter (INIMAGE)

As I said this is rather trivial stuff.

For the ither part I added a System.exit() in the DownloadWaiter
implementation ad that's it for now.
One of the issues I also have is that frustrating access to protected
geospatial services (authentication).
