[Gvsig_english] gvSIG 2.0 and sextante?

Wolfgang

Here is a quick explanation from my side (that might ease your
worries, or not...)

1) I am, unfortunately, not working anymore on SEXTANTE for gvSIG. I
am doing all SEXTANTE development now in my spare time, which is not
much, and I prefer to concentrate on the QGIS version, since I think
it is a better solution. Since I wrote all the core of SEXTNATE again,
I think the QGIS version has a better approach, so it makes more sense
(from my point of view) to work on it.

2) gvSIG 2.0 has the SEXTANTE geoalgorithms available in the toolbox
(why they keep calling them "SEXTANTE algorithms" while they have
removed the SEXTANTE name and icon from the toolbox...i do not know, I
guess you should ask the gvSIG people). However, and as far as I have
seen, they use the algorithms unmodified, but put on top of modified
bindings. In other words, and as I have mentioned several times, gvSIG
2.0 has the most recent algorithms, connected to a fork of the
SEXTANTE core. Modifications to the SEXTANTE core introduced ater this
fork was created (which was prior to our 1.0 version) are not
incorporated. I haven't had a real close look at the work done by the
gvSIG people on that, so I cannot say anything about the stability of
this mix...

3) I transfered the control of the SEXTANTE source code to the gvSIG
CE project. They are doing a great work, fixing bugs, adding new
functionality and, specially, greatly improving the SAGA and GRASS
connections. Needless to say, this is what I recommend using, since it
is a development that improves the latest official version (1.0) of
SEXTANTE that we released. I encourage everyone interested in SEXTANTE
to support the work they are doing, and I hope that someday those
improvements might find their way to the official gvSIG version.

I will be happy to answer more questions about this, so feel free to ask.

Thanks for using SEXTANTE!
