From press at gvsig.com Wed Nov 2 13:07:11 2016 From: press at gvsig.com (gvSIG Press) Date: Wed, 2 Nov 2016 13:07:11 +0100 Subject: [Gvsig_english] 12th International gvSIG Conference: Program with presentations and workshops, and registration Message-ID: <154b41ca-0b51-6a0a-5793-7fd53ab42b28@gvsig.com> The program of the 12th International gvSIG Conference [1], that will be held from November 30th to December 2nd in Valencia (Spain) at School of Engineering in Geodesy, Cartography and Surveying (Universitat Polit?cnica de Val?ncia), is now available. One of the novelties of this event is that workshops will have independent registration, with limited capacity. Registration for workshops, that are free of charge, can be done from this web form [2]. Workshops will be the next ones: - Introducci?n a HOTOSM (Wednesday, November 30th, 15:30-17:30) - Introducci?n a gvSIG (Wednesday, November 30th, 15:30-17:30) - gvSIG aplicado a la Topograf?a (Thursday, December 1st, 11:00-13:00) - Geopaparazzi and gvSIG (Thursday, December 1st, 10:30-12:30) - gvSIG aplicado a arqueolog?a (Thursday, December 1st, 11:00-13:00) - R en gvSIG (Thursday, December 1st, 12:30-13:30) - Introducci?n al desarrollo en gvSIG con Scripting (Thursday, December 1st, 15:30-17:30) - Novedades gvSIG 2.3 (Thursday, December 1st, 15:30-17:00) - gvSIG aplicado a urbanismo (Friday, December 2nd, 10:30-12:30) - Desarrollo avanzado en gvSIG con Scripting (Friday, December 2nd, 10:30-12:30) This year there won't be simultaneous interpretation (Spanish-English and English-Spanish), so presentations and workshops will be given in their original language. In the next days, all the information about workshops will be published at the gvSIG blog [3], with the cartography, and what you have to install in case you have to take your own computer to the workshop. In addition, some weeks ago there was a problem at the registration server. Because of that, we recommend you to register again at the new web form [4], even if you did it at the beginning. Registrations are free of cost (limited capacity). We expect your participation! Please join at: https://ucdenver.zoom.us/j/173408130 If you can't attend, presentation recording will be posted in the Geo4All YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCL1E2akvCNWP_nC0p5CpB8g FOSS4G Tools for Geospatial Analysis at the National Renewable Energy Lab: A Pragmatic Approach Presented by Nick Grue The proliferation of geospatial analysis tools and methods means that no matter what your analysis goals, there are likely several options for running analysis, generating data, and visualizing your results. With a wide selection of tools to choose from, you are also presented with the question of which tool is most useful, has highest performance and efficiency, and easiest to use for your case. Here at the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL), we had the unique opportunity to start fresh with building a new analysis model, and had to decide which technologies would be most useful. We eventually ended up primarily using Python for analysis, and PostGIS and Geoserver for visualization. Deciding on those tools took a fair amount of testing and comparison. This webinar will discuss the different tests we ran, our findings, and why some tools appeared to be better suited for our case than others. Analysis tools discussed in this webinar will include PostGIS vector analysis, PostGIS raster analysis, Python analysis of vector datasets, Python vectorized analysis of raster datasets, Python multiprocessing, and Geoserver visualization.
