It seems that there is some confusion with the latest version of
SEXTANTE, so I am sending this email to make things clear.

Basically, we have changed our distribution policy, and now we are not
distributing installers for GIS apps such as gvSIG or OpenJump, to name
the two most populars applications that run SEXTANTE. Instead of that,
we are now targeting developers who wish to include in their software
geoanalysis capabilities such as those offered by SEXTANTE, making it
easier for them to incorporate SEXTANTE as a library (which is really
what SEXTANTE is). Applications such as gvSIG or OpenJUMP, they use lots
of different libraries, and you do not have to worry about them when you
download the software. The application just uses them and provides
additional functionalities based on those libraries. And this is exactly
how we want SEXTANTE to be used (and how it is already been used by
other software projects, like the 52N WPS server).

So, now you are probably wondering: does this mean that I am not going
to have SEXTANTE running on gvSIG again? Not necessarily. It means that
we are not going to distribute an installer to add SEXTANTE to gvSIG as
a plugin, but we hope that gvSIG will include SEXTANTE in its next
release, making it easier for both users and developers to use and
maintain the software. If that doesn't happen, others might make the
effort to integrate SEXTANTE and gvSIG, and release their own
distributions. In fact, this is already happening. The Oxford
Archaeology distribution already includes SEXTANTE and runs on Java 1.6
(the official gvSIG comes with Java 1.5, which is not compatible with
SEXTANTE anymore). We strongly recommend you to download this OAD
edition if you want to use SEXTANTE running on gvSIG. The people at
Oxford Archaeology are doing a great job and they will soon release a
new version with the latest SEXTANTE version, so in our opinion it is a
good idea to use their distribution.

I hope this helps clarifying what's going on now around SEXTANTE.

Regards

Victor
