[Gvsig_english] Data Encryption - gvSIG Mobile

Hello, Ali.

I guess that only makes sense if gvSIG Mobile itself decrypts the data just before using it, no? Since gvSIG Mobile is GPL software, you would be forced to provide the source code of a customized version of gvSIG Mobile that would do that. Therefore, anyone with some programming skills could easily decrypt the data.

Maybe using some copy-protection technique ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copy_protection ) along with an invented data format (for example, the SHP format with a particular value in the header)

In the MemoryShpDriver class, there is a byte array where the SHP file is loaded 'as is', so encryption/decryption methods should be applied to it.

Hi Juan and Simon,

Thanks for the replies, actually i miss-used the correct wording, it is not
confidentiality issue but I want to protect the ownership of the data.

I need to protect the layers from being copied and distributed by un
authorized person to be opened on aother pocket PC or desktop or another GIS
tool. I want to use gvSIG mobile to open these layers using something like a
license code, then if the data is coped, it cannot be used.

Thanks
