[Gvsig_english] Gvsig_internacional Digest, Vol 185, Issue 1

Hi,
I want to take a file like this, wd_bas30s_po.shp, that comes from https://www.hydrosheds.org/, and sum up the population data from this file, popc_1800AD.asc, which comes from the HYDE database. I want to count the population per river basin.
Ultimately, I want to use files like popc_1800AD.asc and sum the data in them by regions I define, which will in general be river basins, aggregations of river basins, or sub divisions of river basins. In places without rivers it will be something else, like islands.
I have not been able to this.
Can anyone tell me how, or direct me to a book, video, article etc. that will tell me how?
