Hi dupré,
you must use Java 1.5.x version to run gvSIG, not Java 1.6.

Java 1.5 and 1.6 versions are not fully source-compatible nor 
binary-compatible. As gvSIG is developed using Java 1.5, usage of 1.5 
version is encouraged to run it. Several problems have been documented 
using gvSIG with Java 1.6.
