[Gvsig_english] gvSIG 1.9 usb: Questions regarding labeling options

Hi Johannes,

are you experiencing problems with labels that are
displaced in the PDF output? There is a bug in gvSIG 1.9
which can cause this to happen. It has been fixed in
the current beta 2 version of gvSIG OADE 2010.

Best,

Ben

Hi list,

I thought that I would have found a nice workaround by splitting my attributes for labeling into different shapefiles.
Streetnames and parcel numbers are labelled based on attributes and thus keeping rotation, units are meters for original display. Fine.
Housenumbers are labelled in a user defined way which includes preferences on positioning labels. I chose highest priority for middle left/middle right and zero priority for all the other postions. Units are millimeters for printing display.
Attached you see my results in a screenshot: view (upper left), map (lower left), result (pdf)

I am running out of time by experimenting and creating results more or less like the one shown.
Am I totally mistaken in what I am trying to do with gvSIG and always creating user errors or is there somebody out there who managed to design a nice layout of a cadastral map with readable labels in scale 1:5000 for printing purposes?
I really do NOT want to go back to esri altohough I knoe most of the tweaks for layouts in the Arcworld.

Still hoping,

Johannes

Hi Falk, hi list,

after posting my message I also found the thread Falk mentioned which did not motivate me that much ;-)
I also tried Falk's workaround (more or less as I am working on shapefiles) which gave some nice results regarding street names and parcel numbers but still the labeling is far from being acceptable (esp. with house numbers).
Now I am wondering if my thoughts on the default position of the labels are correct (by labeling using the attributes).
Can somebody who knows it confirm the default position of labels?

Maybe my problem with the position of the labels lies already within the data source which is (you maybe guessed it) a dxf.
This I will examine today.

best,

Johannes

Hi Johannes,

a few month ago I had the same problem and discussed it here in the forum ( http://www.mail-archive.com/gvsig_internacional@listserv.gva.es/msg00446.html ). Currently there is no solution in gvSIG, but perhaps there is a workaround:

I mainly use data from PostGIS, and for labelling purposes I always create a view with repositioned point features (depending on the estimated text height). Of course, this works only for reading not writing geometry.

Alternativly, if you plan to edit your labels, you could think about
a) permanently reposition the labels until the problem is solved in gvSIG
b) create a second geometry column with repositioned geometry and update the original with a trigger

Hope this helps,

Hi list,

today seems to be my day of questions

Now I am stuck with labeling.
By using the attribute-based option for labeling I can keep rotation values for labels according to the attribute table.
Obviously the default position for all labels is in the lower right "corner" below the point feature which is labelled (see screenshot "label_attribute").

By using the user defined option for labeling it is possible to place the labels centered on top of the point features (see screenshot "label_userdefined").

The perfect way of labeling in my case would be the combination of these two:

I'd like to have all labels placed centered on top of the point features while keeping the rotation value (see my problem at "Hauptstraße" in the screenshots).

How could I possibly do this?

best,

Johannes
