Hi Henry,
We finally have tested that issue in several Android phones. The test consists on start gvSIG Mini on a device with 34% of overall battery life, press the HOME button (after a few seconds the device goes sleep) and after half an hour take a look at the battery use.
With an Android 1.6, when the application is on the background, the percent of battery used does not increase; the battery life does not decrease, so everything seems OK.
With an Android 2.2, when the application is paused (or closed), the percent of battery used by gvSIG Mini increases progressively as you said (from 2% to 15%), although it doesn't seem that the battery life decreases too much, at least not significantly... the overall battery percent stands still on 34%... have you noticed a significant battery drainage, how much in percent/time?
In both cases the Battery use details of gvSIG Mini (CPU total, foreground, GPS, etc.) don't increase, so it seems that the application is not doing any background operation that consumes battery.
Apart from all this, maybe we have a bug :) We will try to find out where is the problem exactly to fix it and release an update as soon as possible.
After all, thanks for your feedback. We put much of our efforts on making performance tests on Android 1.5 and Android 1.6 devices as they are less powerful, so your testing on Android 2.2 has been very helpful to us. For this special bug I will try to test on an Android 2.2.
Regards,
Alberto Romeu
