On 14 and July 15, a new gvSIG CodeSprint was held at the School of Civil Engineering at the University of A Coruña.

The event was organized and promoted by the Cartographic Engineering Laboratory (CartoLab) [1] from the School of Engineering in Civil and Ports Coruña [2], and the company iCarto [3]. The event was fostered as friendly and open way of making contributions to the core of the project or from any of its extensions.

The CodeSprint got the participation of active programmers and people who only wanted to start with this software, to socialize and share experiences. It also had a simultaneous editing via the Internet in the IRC channel on freenode gvSIG (#gvsig) for anyone who wanted to contribute or just stay informed. Between the on site participants should be highlighted Joaquin del Cerro (Head of Architecture and Development of gvSIG) that helped with his experience within the project.

Organized into several groups came to perform for two days about 25 new code contributions (commits) at the core of the
project and there are still some patches waiting for review or to be improved before being integrated permanently. In addition to bug fixes other developments were made in the usability of the application, in NavTable extension and refactorings in the code to increase performance and maintainability.

This Codesprint has been a big boost to continue an active participation in gvSIG technical level, the sharing of knowledge and the gradual overall improvement of the software. It has been a great encouragement and positions have been strengthened in certain aspects of the project.

See you at the next Codesprint!
