[Gvsig_english] image catalogue... sigh?

Dear list,

I guess this topic has been posted several times before. Nethertheless I 
would like to mention it again.
Is there a possiblity to build an image catalogue for gvSIG? I remember 
those catalogues in ArcView, they were really helpful, as you did not 
have to load every single image by hand. I think it was quite 
sophisticated, as only those "tiles" were
loaded which were actually visible. Wouldn't this be a cool project for 
google summer of code or sth similar?
What do you think? And developers: would it be hard to create such a 
catalogue extension/function?
