Hello Everyone!

First time posting on the list so apologies for any blunder on my part!

I've installed gvSIG Mobile 0.3 on Trimble GeoXT that is a couple of years old (think it was bought in 2005), and although the program seems to work fine, even if a little slow, I've had some trouble in actually receviing signal form the GPS antenna

Here go some details on the hardware and software of the GPS before I go any further:

Hardware:
-CPU Intel Corp StrongARM-SA1110, 206 MHz
-RAM 64MB (8MB reserved)
-FlashDisk 512MB (32MB reserved, 417MB free)
-GPS Receiver GeoXT

OS:
Microsoft Pocket PC v4.20.0

Relevant Software:
-gvSIG Mobile 0.3
-TerraSync 3.20 (Trimble proprietary software)

So basically I can seem to get a GPS signal within gvSIG. I set the following configurations on the GPS preferences, under the device tab:

Protocol NMEA 0183

Serial device (selected)
 Port name: COM2
 Baud Rate: 4800

I set this based on the info of one of the apps that came with the model "GPS Connector" . It indicates COM2 NMEA (Available).

When I try to connect it beeps quite a bit (not sure if thats normal) and in the GPS activity window doesn't show much activity accept for the console tab that seems to output what I have understood to be NMEA sentences. But apart from that no signal seems to be captured, no satellites listed, no data whatsoever..

I can't remember the exact details of how I got installed it since its been a while but think I got everything that was needed installed well using Microsoft ActiveSync.

I've read some posts in malingi lists and forums mentioning that the Trimble software might conflict with gvSIG Mobile (and other OSS) and suggested that it should be uninstalled but I'm afraid might end up with nothing to use since the installer of Terrasync seems to have expired... The device is not my own, it's property of a foundation I work with and just trying to present to managment the possiblity of using open source both as a desktop and mobile GIS solution.

Hope you can help me out, thanks in advance
Maxim Jaffe
