Hello,
JPG, PNG and GIF have a strong limitation in size because they need a lot of memory.
 
If you have a raster file (JPG, PNG, etc) with a georeference file (WLD, JGW, etc) and you want to use it in gvSIG Mobile, you will probably have to convert it to ECW. In that case, it's better to convert it in two steps, so you dont lose the rotation information:
 
gdalwarp image.jpg image.tif
gdal_translate -of ecw image.tif image.ecw
 
(the georeference file image.jgw or image.wld must be in the same folder)
 
gdalwarp and gdal_translate are command-line programs, included in FWTools http://fwtools.maptools.org
 
For the world file, use the extension WLD always (JPG, PNG, etc, unless the georeference info is included in the file itself, as in ECW and sometimes in TIF) and it will be ok.
 
The ECW format does not have limitations in size.

I am using gvSig Mobile 0.3

The device is M3Sky with Windows Mobile 6

I am able to open vector layers (in the .gml format), but have some problems with raster layers.

I tried to use raster layers as files in .PNG format. Seems there are some limitations for resolution. I have tried to open .PNG with different resolution and found that it's possible only for files with resolution less than 700 x 700. 

What kind of limitations for images gvSigMobile 0.3 actually has?

Another question is about world file. What kind of extension is supporting for .PNG files - ".pngw" or ".pgw" or something else?
