Hi Roger,
this can be easily done by doing this
1) Add columns:
a) acitvate the shapefile in the legend (click on it), right-click and
select "Start editing"
b) click on the show-table menu-button on top of the window
c) go to table > Manage fields
d) add the desired column
2) assign colours
a) (no edit-mode necessary)
b) activate shapefile, right click and select "properties" > symbols > unique
values, ...
c) add all values, change colours the way you would like them to be
3) you can find the manual of gvSIG here:
--> http://www.gvsig.gva.es/index.php?id=manuales-gvsig&L=2&K=1
Hope that helps & greetings.
